Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim declares open 50th All India Schools Regatta at Rabindra Sarobar

Kolkata, May 11 (UNI) West Bengal Urban Development Minister and city Mayor Firhad Hakim on
Sunday declared open the 50th All India Schools Regatta Championship, being organised by Lake Club at the
Rabindra Sarobar in the city,
The opening day saw South Point school boys and Modern High School girls winning their races against
St Lawrence and Delhi Public School in senior boys fours and senior girls pairs events respectively.
About 400 students, both boys and girls from nearly 50 schools, are participating in the championship.
This flagship regatta has been recognised in the country as the single most important event to promote
this sport among the young students with the motto 'Catch Them Young'.
The event would consist of three primary disciplines – coxed fours, double scull and indoor rowing for
junior boys and girls (up to Class X ) and senior boys and girls (Class XI and XII ).
The club also felicitated some veteran oarsmen of the club including Shakeel Ahmed, Subhasish
Dasgupta for their excellence and contribution to this water sport.
From Monday various rounds of the regular rowing would be held in the morning while the indoor rowing
and other indoor events would be held in the afternoon. The finals will be held on May 17.
