Two police officials suspended ahead of Mamata's visit to trouble-torn Murshidabad

Kolkata, May 4 (UNI) Ahead of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to trouble-hit
Murshidabad district, two police officials of Shamsherganj PS where much of the violence took place, have been suspended, official sources said on Sunday.
Jangipur Police district Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Shah in an order on Saturday suspended Shibo Prasad Ghosh, the former Officer-in-Charge of Shamsherganj PS, and Sub-Inspector Md Jalaluddin Ahamed, for "gross misconduct and dereliction of duty".
Both the officials of Jangipur Police district, were posted at Shamsherganj when the April 11-12
violence over the Waqf Amendment Bill rocked Murshidabad. The OC was later transferred.
Banerjee, who is scheduled to visit Murshidabad on May 5, will now go on the following day, according to Nabanna, the state secretariat, sources.
The two Police officials have been placed under suspension for their alleged gross misconduct and
dereliction of duty, according to an order under Rule No 880 & 881 of PRB, Vol-I, 1943 and Rule No 70 of WBSR Part-I in the interest of public service,
The punitive action on the police personnel was taken on the day when the nine-member SIT and Bengal STF arrested two more suspects for their alleged involvement in the violence in Jafrabad where a father-son were lynched during the anti-Waqf Amendment Act protests.
Md Iqbal and Md Nurul — residents of Sulitala in Shamsherganj, were apprehended from Howrah station and Farakka PS area, respectively.
