Bhubaneswar, Feb 18 (UNI) Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das on Tuesday described the state budget presented by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi as weak and anti-people.
Majhi presented a Rs.2.90 lakh crore budget in the Odisha Assembly on Monday for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Reacting to the budget, Das stated that the state's loan burden has increased by Rs. 44,400 crore in the last eight months since the BJP government came to power, making life miserable for the people.
Hefurther alleged that the state government is incapable of reducing regional disparities in ten tribal districts and claimed that the budget lacks sincerity in improving the standard of living in these districts.
The Congress President also pointed out that the growth of small and medium industries, as well as the agricultural sector, has declined sharply.
Criticó la reducción del gasto en esquemas como Subhadra Yojana, Shri Anna Yojana y Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, llamándolo un signo desfavorable .
Das accused the state government of failing to control inflation, which has now reached 6.5 percent.
He further argued that the government has not taken concrete steps to fulfill its election promises, such as job creation and employment opportunities for unemployed youth. This, he claimed, proves that the state budget is both weak and anti-people.
The PCC Chief also criticized the state government for not sincerely seeking assistance from the central government, while also accusing the Centre of lacking sincerity in extending support.
"Both the double-engine governments have deceived the people of Odisha," Das remarked.
