Chin factions hopeful of lasting unity after Aizawl peace pact

Aizawl, Feb 28 (UNI) A key negotiator of the Chinland Council (CC) and Vice Chairman-1 of the Chin National Front (CNF)/Chin National Army (CNA), Thang Ning Kee, has expressed confidence that the peace pact signed in Aizawl on Wednesday (February 26) will bring lasting unity among Chin pro-democracy groups in Myanmar’s conflict-ridden Chin state.
The agreement between the Chinland Council (CC) and the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC), along with its armed wing Chin Brotherhood (CB), was signed in the presence of Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. It was the result of peace talks facilitated by Mizoram’s Advocacy Group for Peace, a body comprising prominent civil society leaders and public figures.
Kee said on Thursday night that the truce will not only strengthen solidarity among Chin factions but also help in resisting Myanmar’s military junta. He further stated that a Chin national constitution drafting committee—including representatives from both factions and Mizoram’s advocacy group—will soon start working on a constitution that reflects the aspirations of all Chin people.
