Arunachal Minister meets Union Minister, seeks Spl consideration for central schemes

Itanagar, Mar 21 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Urban Affairs, Land Management & Civil Aviation, Balo Raja, along with Itanagar Mayor Tame Phassang, called on Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, at his New Delhi office on Friday to discuss key developmental projects and pending issues concerning the state.
During the meeting, Minister Raja highlighted the unique geographical and demographic challenges of Arunachal Pradesh, which often prevent the state from qualifying for centrally sponsored schemes due to low population density.
He informed the Union Minister that Arunachal Pradesh spans 83,743 sq km but has a population of only 13.84 lakh (2011 Census), with a density of just 17 persons per sq km. The state has 48 notified towns, but only two—Itanagar Municipal Corporation and Pasighat Municipal Council—are elected urban local bodies. While Ziro has been approved for municipal status, several other towns are still under consideration.
