Mizoram records peaceful polling in village, local council elections

Aizawl, Feb 12 (UNI) Voters in Mizoram turned out in large numbers for the elections to 544 village councils (VCs) and 111 local councils (LCs) on Wednesday, with polling conducted peacefully across all districts.
State Election Commissioner H Lalthlangliana said voting began at 7 am and officially closed at 4 pm. However, in several polling stations, voters who had queued up before the deadline were still casting their ballots late into the evening.
Counting of votes commenced at 7 pm in polling stations where polling concluded on time, while at others, the process was delayed due to extended voting hours, the Election Commission stated.
