Malaria eradication in Mizoram faces hurdles in four border districts

Aizawl, Mar 30 (UNI) Mizoram has made significant strides in achieving the targets set under India’s malaria eradication programme, which aims for zero indigenous cases by 2030. However, four districts bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar continue to lag behind, posing a challenge to the state's overall progress, a senior health official said on Sunday.
India’s malaria eradication efforts follow a multi-pronged approach under the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) launched in 2016, focusing on enhanced surveillance, rapid case management, and integrated vector control.
Dr Chawngthanchhunga, Additional Director of the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC) under Mizoram’s Health & Family Welfare Department, identified Mamit district (bordering Bangladesh and Tripura), Lunglei (bordering Bangladesh), Lawngtlai (bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh), and Siaha (bordering Myanmar) as the key areas hampering the state's malaria eradication efforts.
