Mizoram gears up for launch of universal health care scheme on April 1

Aizawl, Mar 13 (UNI) Mizoram is in the final stages of preparing for the rollout of its Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), which promises cashless treatment for patients across the state.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii informed the state legislative assembly on Thursday that all necessary arrangements are being expedited to ensure a smooth launch on April 1.
Responding to queries from legislators across party lines, Lalrinpuii stated that the government is focused on upgrading health infrastructure, with special emphasis on making all Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in government hospitals functional. Currently, several ICUs remain non-operational due to manpower and resource constraints.
As part of the MUHCS implementation, the government will recruit 300 casual nurses, along with a significant number of laboratory technicians and X-ray technicians. Additionally, more doctors—including specialists and consultants—will be hired on a need-based basis to bolster healthcare services under the scheme.
Lalrinpuii highlighted that the state is working towards making the scheme more beneficial by empanelling reputed hospitals outside Mizoram, ensuring better medical treatment options for patients who require advanced care.
She also revealed that the government aims to make the scheme paperless by strengthening its information technology systems, streamlining processes for beneficiaries.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma had earlier announced, while presenting the state budget on March 4, that the MUHCS would be launched on April 1 with a fully cashless model, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility in Mizoram.
