Security tightened in Manipur ahead of mock drill

Imphal, May 7 (UNI) Manipur Police and security personnel intensified security in the state ahead of mock drill to be conducted later at 4 pm on Wednesday.
Police checked vehicles and frisked people and so far 16 stolen vehicles were recovered.
Vehicles having tinted glasses stopped and about 69 vehicles were fined. Police said a team of Manipur Police Traffic Control Wing seized one Alto 800 LXI Car while conducting special drive near Airport gate along Tiddim Road, Imphal West on Tuesday.
The vehicle was flagged as Not to Be Transacted (NTBT) by PVD, Kolkata, West Bengal due to Government decision of Anti Motor Theft Squad, Lalbazar, Kolkata on being checked by e-challan machine. Hence, the driver of the said vehicle was arrested and the vehicle seized.
Police said Manipur Police Traffic Control Wing has issued e-challans amounting to Rs 1,74,88,600 from January 2025 till April 2025 for various Traffic Rule violations.
All were set for MOCK DRILL - Operation Abhyaas to simulate air raid and its eventualities by different teams from various stakeholders , Police, Civil Defence, Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, Health Dept., Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited, Educational Institutions, State Museum and Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
The staging area of the mock drill will be at Johnstone Hr. Secondary School, State Museum, BT Park, Polo Ground (Mahal Kangjeibung) and Directorate of Fire Service.
Police informed the people to remain calm as there will be air raid warning sirens, announcing through police public address systems, activation of fire engine sirens, announcements via police patrol chides, blackout measures, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation from the damaged buildings, temporary Hospital setup, evacuation of civilians from endangered areas to hunkers etc. and training of civilians on civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a "hostile attack".
This exercise aims to assess and enhance the readiness of Civil Defence mechanisms in the event of air raid.
