Mock drills held at multiple locations in Manipur

Imphal, May 7 (UNI) A state-level Mock Drill under the provision of Section 19 of the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, titled “Operation Abhyaas” was conducted on Wednesday.

The drill was conducted at multiple locations including Johnston Higher Secondary School, the State Museum, BT Park, Polo Ground (Mapal Kangjeibung), and the Directorate of Fire Service.

The mock drill was conducted across the 244 categorized civil Defence Districts of the Country. For Manipur, the drill was held in Imphal, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Bishnupur districts.

Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh conducted both pre- and post-media briefings related to the mock drill held earlier. During his address, he urged the general public to remain calm, composed, and resilient when faced with hostile situations or unforeseen emergencies, as well as in their daily lives.

The Deputy Commissioner extended his appreciation to all stakeholders for their cooperation during the exercise and emphasized the importance of continuous awareness and preparedness. He also called for sustained collaboration among all parties to effectively manage and respond to such eventualities in the future.

The drill simulated the scenario of an air raid and was jointly carried out by the Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Health Department, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), Civil Defence, educational institutions, the State Museum and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR).

The exercise featured air raid warning sirens, public address announcements by the police, fire engine sirens, blackout protocols, and rescue operations. It included search and rescue efforts, evacuation of civilians from affected areas, casualty evacuation from damaged structures, the setup of temporary medical facilities, and relocation of civilians to bunkers.

Civilians were also trained in basic civil defence techniques to enhance preparedness in the event of a hostile attack. The primary objective of “Operation Abhyaas” was to evaluate and strengthen the state's emergency response capabilities during air raid scenarios.

Dignitaries, officials, staff members, personnel, students from various directorates, universities, colleges, schools, NCC cadets, and other stakeholders actively participated in and extended their full cooperation during today’s mock drill.

As part of the drill, the Deputy Commissioner also sought and considered feedback and opinions from the participating stakeholders.
