High alert in and around Kolkata airport, security tightened at Kolkata port, Rly stations

Kolkata, May 9 (UNI) A high alert has been sounded in and around the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata airport), where security arrangements have been significantly tightened with a five-layer round-the-clock vigilance following escalating India-Pakistan tensions, official sources said on Friday.
Similarly, the security system in the Kolkata Dock area and Haldia Dock area of Kolkata Port was also increased after the port chairman, R. Ramen, had a meeting with the Union Home Ministry officials in which all major ports of the country participated on Friday, sources added.
Kolkata airport sources said the sniffer dogs have been deployed in and around the international port, and the vigilance of the CISF increased considerably since Thursday.
The security measures include increased frisking of the vehicles entering the airport, deployment of plainclothes personnel for profiling passengers, more frequent rounds with sniffer dogs, and five-layer baggage checks at boarding gates.
The airport officials have been instructed to alert security about any suspicious passenger behaviour, and the passengers have been asked to report three hours before the flight departure.
"The passengers are advised to arrive at the airport three hours before domestic flights and four hours before international flights," sources added.
Although Kolkata airport is not currently in a conflict zone, security agencies are on alert, and all SOPs at the airport relate to flight emergency situations, including accidents and hijackings.
The security system was also tightened in both the Howrah and Sealdah railway stations and the places where large sections of people gather for businesses.
Security was also enhanced on the iconic Howrah bridge, linking Kolkata with Howrah district.NUNI PC ARN SSP
