Bangladeshi nationals try to disrupt joint border pillar survey in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 8 (UNI) A group of Bangladeshi nationals on Thursday tried to disrupt a joint border pillar survey at Naljuri area along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
However, the joint survey was smoothly conducted in the presence of Border Security Force (BSF) troopers and soldiers of the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB).
The Bangladeshi nationals armed with sticks tried to attack the surveyors and the BSF troopers.
However, the BSF and BGB diffused the situation and forced the Bangladeshi nationals to retreat from the area.
Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, O.P. Upadhyay said the survey is conducted annually between the two sides to see the pillars are intact or replace dislodged or broken pillars.
“It was a minor incident and was handled professionally by the BSF and BGB," Upadhyay said.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government on Thursday imposed a night curfew along the India-Bangladesh border due to the current situation in the neighbouring country and to prevent infiltration, militant movement, and illegal cross-border activities. UNI RRK SSP
