Agartala, April 22 (UNI) Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to push for comprehensive railway development in the state.
During the meeting, Deb discussed a range of issues including infrastructure upgrades, double-lane tracks, and the extension of railway lines, particularly focusing on the Lumding-Sabroom and Agartala-Sabroom sections.
Deb said he also stressed electrification of routes and the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express service up to Guwahati. He proposed the launch of long-distance express trains connecting Agartala with Jammu, Puri, and Gaya.
Deb stressed the need for modernisation of key railway stations like Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur under the Amrit Bharat scheme, and called for transforming Agartala station into a world-class hub.
Other demands included an industrial rail link, expansion of the Jirania Yard, and introduction of more passenger train services.
He said the Railway Minister acknowledged the significance of these proposals and assured him of prompt action on priority.
