Mizoram explores export-quality wine production to boost horticulture sector

Aizawl, Feb 28 (UNI) Mizoram Horticulture Minister, Prof. Lalnilawma, emphasised the need to produce export-quality wine from locally grown fruits to enhance the state’s horticulture sector and uplift farmers.
Speaking at the 27th general conference of the Mizoram Horticulture Service Association (MHSA) in Aizawl on Friday, Lalnilawma highlighted the state government’s vision for fruit-based wine production. He stated that the horticulture department is working on multiple proposals to manufacture wine not only for local consumption but also for export to generate higher revenue for cultivators.
He commended the Horticulture Department for its contributions to increasing the production of fruits, vegetables, and other horticultural commodities. This, he said, has prompted the government to expand post-harvest initiatives, including the production of dragon fruit powder and the processing of other fruits and cash crops to add value to Mizoram’s agricultural produce.
