EAM Jaishankar, Russian FM Lavrov discuss Ukraine peace efforts

Johannesburg/New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian FM Sergey Lavrov in Johannesburg on Thursday, during which the two sides discussed the recent Ukraine developments, including the peace efforts in Riyadh.
In a post on X, the EAM wrote:
“Glad to meet FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia this evening in Johannesburg. Reviewed the continued progress of India-Russia bilateral cooperation.
“Discussed recent developments pertaining to the Ukraine conflict, including his Riyadh meeting. Agreed to remain in touch.”
The Russian Embassy in New Delhi, posting pictures of the meeting, said the two ministers held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
“Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey #Lavrov and Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. @DrSJaishankar hold talks on the sidelines of the #G20 Ministerial.”
During their meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday, Russia and the US agreed to start working toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving their diplomatic and economic ties.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio after his meeting with Sergey Lavrov, said the two sides agreed to pursue three goals: to restore staffing at their respective embassies in Washington and Moscow, create a high-level team to support Ukraine peace talks and explore closer relations and economic cooperation.
