New Delhi/Dhaka, Feb 20 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that under her Awami League government the poverty levels had come down significantly and the country was recognised as a role model of development worldwide, which has all been lost under the "fascist, murderer" Interim Government led by Mohammed Younus.
In a statement on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, Hasina said in a statement, issued from New Delhi, that Bengali was established through the great language movement, which had led to the creation of Bangladesh in 1971, breaking away from Pakistan.
Hasina, who fled her country on August 5 last year in the face of a so-called “student-led” uprising, said the Bangladesh Awami League was ruling the nation as part of the ideals of the nation’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“And this is why in the past years, Bangladesh's financial and social sectors achieved unprecedented success. Poverty reduced from 41 percent to 18. 7 percent… Bangladesh was recognised as the role model of development worldwide.
“But where is that Bangladesh today? The IMF can't meet conditions for a loan instalment today. A number of industry-factories have shut down in the past six months by the murderer, fascist Younus government, foreign investments are down by 71 percent.
“Millions of people have become unemployed. There is no employment. All government facilities that were introduced for the welfare of low-income people during the Awami League are being cancelled one by one.
“Even after two months of the current year have elapsed, students still haven't received their textbooks. The Education Advisor is not able to confirm when he can give the textbooks. Education has no importance for this illegal occupation fascist Younus government. Those who don't care about education, surely don't know how to protect the dignity of language.
“On the other hand, people's freedom of speech, human rights and the right to think freely is being taken away. The media has been caught in this mess.
“The Fascist government representatives and their aides are visiting the media offices and issuing threats and prescription press releases.”
She said her Awami League government through the establishment of Digital Bangladesh had opened the doors to freedom of expression and independent media.
“Today these fascist forces and militants are closing all open doors and putting the people of the country under blockade. The law and order situation in the country is at the bottom.
“There is no security for human beings. There is no freedom of thinking, humanity is endangered…. Nothing is safe in the hands of these fascist monsters. Everything including our mother, motherland and mother tongue is wounded and upset today.
“We strongly believe, no demonic force can survive in power by oppressing the people. With the joint efforts of all we will protect our motherland from the oppression of these monsters and build a better,-rich and smart Bangladesh in future, Inshallah.
“Victory to Bangla, Hail Bangabandhu
“May Bangladesh live forever.”
