Farmer leaders detained, protest venues cleared by police

Chandigarh, Mar 19 (UNI) Punjab police on Wednesday detained 14 farmer leaders minutes after the 7th round of talks concluded at Chandigarh between farmers leaders and Union as well as Punjab ministers.
Sources said that, after the meeting, as soon as farmer leaders Sarvan Singh Pandher, Jagjit Singh Dallewal and others crossed Chandigarh were taken into custody by the Punjab police.
Police also cleared the Khanauri and Shambhu borders, where Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been agitating for the last 13 months demanding a law to guarantee minimum support price for their produce.
Internet services were halted around both borders.
The move has been condemned by the farmer organisations as well as political parties as well.
Earlier, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, after the meeting, had said that the meeting concluded positively in a constructive environment. He also announced that the dialogue will continue and the next meeting is scheduled for May 4.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister Prahlad Joshi and Piyush Goyal also.
Punjab ministers Harpal Singh Cheema, Gurmeet Khudian and LC Kataruchak were also present
