Rain, thunderstorms lash parts of Himachal

Shimla, May 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh experienced widespread rain and thunderstorms over the past 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued thunderstorm activity and gusty winds at isolated places till Saturday.
Significant rainfall was recorded at several locations, with Naina Devi receiving the highest at 38.2 mm, followed by Bharari (30.8 mm), Nahan (29.8 mm), and Jot (18.6 mm). Thunderstorms were reported from Shimla, Palampur, Jubberhatti, Kangra, Sundernagar, and Jot, though no hailstorm or snowfall was reported.
The minimum and maximum temperatures remained largely within the seasonal range, though many places recorded below-normal day temperatures.
Kukumseri was the coldest at night with a minimum temperature of 6.1°C, while Paonta Sahib recorded the highest daytime temperature at 36°C.
Minimum temperature of Shimla: Min 14.6°C, Max 21.6°C, Sundernagar: 18.2°C and 30.9°C, Dharamshala 17.6°C and 27.0°C, Una: 15.7°C and 35.8°C, Nahan: 17.9°C and 32.4°C Palampur 15.5°C and 28.0°C, Mandi 19.6°C and 31.8°C, ,Kangra 19.6°C and 33.0°C and Manali 12.3°C and 23.5° .
A western disturbance prevailing over Iran is currently affecting weather conditions in the western Himalayan region.
The IMD has issued a warning for gusty winds of 40–50 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h at isolated locations for today and tomorrow.
The public is advised to stay alert and avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
