Basti/Maharajganj (UP), Apr 23 (UNI) An alert has been issued in the districts on the Indo-Nepal in Uttar Pradesh after the terror attack in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 tourists were killed, senior police officers said here on Wednesday.

He said that the friendly nation Nepal is adjacent to Siddharth Nagar district of Basti Zone. "The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is constantly keeping vigil on the border. Intensive checking of every vehicle passing through the border is being done," he said.
The DIG said that the police of all the border police stations are on alert mode and the CCTV cameras installed on all the routes leading towards the border are in full active mode. "Directives have been given to the SP and other officers to conduct checking campaigns on Shohratgarh-Badhni, Dhebaria-Badhni road, Itwa-Dhebarua, Chilhiya-Khunua, Dumariyaganj-Itwa and other routes. The security committee is also monitoring the border. Security personnel are fully active at bus stops and railway stations," he said.
He said that the police will also be in alert mode in Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar of the region. "Apart from beat constables, additional forces have been deployed in the main markets and towns," he said.
Meanwhile, in Maharajganj district the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police have tightened security at the Indo-Nepal border in UP. "People coming and going from Nepal are being thoroughly searched, their luggage and identity cards are also being checked," police sources said here.
Police sources said that vehicles and luggage are being checked with the help of dog squads at the border, while CCTV cameras are being used for constant monitoring. "Patrolling has also been intensified on the 84-km long open Indo-Nepal border so that no anti-national element can enter the country," they said.
ASP Aatish Kumar Singh said that vigilance has been increased on the border and those entering India from Nepal are being thoroughly checked.
