CM Revanth Reddy initiates comprehensive cow protection policy for Telangana

Hyderabad, June 17 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today directed officials to formulate a comprehensive and culturally sensitive policy for cow protection in the state.

Emphasising the importance of cows in Indian culture and the deep sentiments of devotees, the Chief Minister conducted a review meeting on the issue at his residence here.

To begin the process, the Chief Minister appointed a three-member committee comprising Special Principal Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department Sabyasachi Ghosh, Principal Secretary of the Endowments Department Shailaja Ramaiyar, and Secretary of the Agriculture Department Raghunandan Rao.

The committee has been tasked with studying cow protection policies implemented in various states and preparing a detailed plan tailored to Telangana's needs.

Expressing concern over the condition of existing cow shelters, the Chief Minister noted that despite large numbers of cows being donated by devotees, many shelters lack the space and facilities needed to care for them properly, often leading to the animals’ death.

He proposed the establishment of modern, well-equipped cow shelters in four key locations across the state — Vemulawada, Yadagirigutta, near Hyderabad city, and near the Animal Husbandry Department University. These shelters will be associated with prominent temples and spread over large areas to accommodate the growing number of cows.

The Chief Minister stressed that special attention must be given to cows donated with devotion and instructed that a cowshed spanning no less than one hundred acres should be established near Vemulawada. Reaffirming his commitment to the cause, he declared that the state government would not hesitate to allocate the required budget for this purpose.

During the meeting, officials presented an approach paper on the management and development of cow shelters in Telangana. The review was attended by Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari, Chief Secretaries to the Chief Minister V Seshadri and Srinivasa Raju, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, Animal Husbandry Director Gopi, Ranga Reddy District Collector Narayana Reddy, and other senior officials, an official statement said.
