TN: Police inspector dismissed from service for colluding with narcotics peddlers

Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), Mar 12 (UNI) A Tamil Nadu police inspector has been dismissed from service for allegedly colluding with narcotics peddlers who attempted to smuggle 400 kg of ganja to Sri Lanka.
Taking stringent action, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Tiruchirapalli Range V.Varun Kumar ordered the dismissal of P Periyasamy, attached to the Kanakiliyanallur police station in Tiruchirapalli district, based on a departmental inquiry that was conducted into the charges against him, official sources said on Wednesday.
As per the allegations, while serving as the Inspector in Nagapattinam Town police station between November 2020 and April 2022, Periyasamy acted in favour of the narcotics peddlers who attempted to smuggle Ganja to Sri Lanka
Despite arresting the peddlers, Periyasamy has been accused of failing to take steps to detain them under the Goondas Act. It was also alleged that he had attempted to save the mastermind in the ganja smuggling case and did not take measures to freeze the bank accounts, and moveable and immovable properties of the accused peddlers.
Later, he was transferred to the Ariyalur police station and then to the Kanakiliyanallur police station.
A photograph of Periyasamy eating food with the accused narcotics peddlers in uniform in a hotel went viral on social media recently.
"Based on the departmental inquiry, it was proven that Periyasamy had acted in a manner damaging the reputation of the police and dereliction of duty, the order dismissing him from the police service was issued," the sources added. UNI GSM SSP
