Renowned gastroenterologist Dr Nageshwar Reddy merits Bharat Ratna: Telangana CM

Hyderabad, July 2 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today said that highly renowned gastroenterologist and the Chairman of AIG (Asian Institute of Gastroenterology) Hospitals in Hyderabad, Dr Nageshwar Reddy is worthy of India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna'.
The CM said that Dr Reddy has brought laurels to Hyderabad and Telangana.
Addressing after inaugurating AIG hospital at Banjara Hills here, Revanth Reddy said he will pursue with the Centre to recognise the noted doctor's services and present the prestigious award to him.
The visit of Miss World contestants to the famous hospital displayed the advancement of medical care in Telangana worldwide, he said.
The CM emphasised that government hospitals should compete with private Corporate hospitals and the doctors of corporate hospitals should serve in government hospitals for at least one month as a social responsibility.
Appealing to AIG Hospital Chairman Dr.Reddy to join as partner with the government in the endeavour to strengthen the medical and health sectors, the CM said that it is a pride that patients from 66 countries are coming for treatment at AIG Hospital.
Dr. Nageshwar Reddy is a pioneer in therapeutic endoscopy and is known for his contributions to gastroenterology, particularly in India.

He has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri (2002), Padma Bhushan (2016), and Padma Vibhushan (India's second-highest civilian honour).
He has also received awards from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).
He is a fellow of various prestigious medical academies and has served as the Chairman of the World Endoscopy Organization Research Committee.
Dr. Reddy is known for his pioneering work in advanced endoscopic procedures and for bringing life-saving diagnostics to remote villages through initiatives like India's first mobile endoscopy units.
