Telangana to move Supreme Court against Andhra’s irrigation projects: Minister

Hyderabad, Apr 4 (UNI) Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday announced that the state government will approach the Supreme Court against the Rayalaseema and Bankacherla Lift Irrigation Projects initiated unilaterally by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Addressing a review meeting with officials at the Jala Soudha (Irrigation Department headquarters) here, the Minister said these projects threaten Telangana’s irrigation and drinking water security, as they violate existing legal and environmental norms.
“These projects are being constructed without approval from the Central Water Commission, KRMB, GRMB, or the Apex Council. They also violate the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) orders and the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014,” Reddy said.
