Karnataka Minister Parameshwara courts controversy for molestation remark

Bengaluru, Apr 7 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has courted controversy over his response to the molestation of a woman in Bengaluru’s Bharati Layout, with critics accusing him of trivialising crimes against women.
Speaking to reporters after CCTV footage of the April 3 incident surfaced, Parameshwara remarked, "Incidents like these tend to happen here and there in a big city like this." The footage, which went viral on social media, shows a man forcibly pushing a woman against a wall on a deserted street before fleeing. Another woman was seen walking beside the victim.
While the minister assured that legal action would follow and directed the police commissioner to step up beat patrolling, his comment has drawn sharp criticism from civil society groups and opposition parties, who said it reflected a dismissive attitude towards women’s safety.
