Yellapur (Karnataka), Apr 11 (UNI) The BJP on Friday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of "diverting" Rs 38,000 crore earmarked for the socio-economic upliftment of Scheduled Castes and Adivasis, saying the Siddaramaiah-led government has "turned welfare into wholesale loot".
At a rally held here as part of the BJP's Janakrosh Yatra, Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa claimed that the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, had "betrayed the Dalits and tribals" by misappropriating the funds under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), meant for their socio-economic upliftment.
"This is not just corruption. This is constitutional sacrilege," Vijayendra said. "These funds are protected under law, designed to empower historically oppressed communities. But Siddaramaiah has diverted Rs 38,000 crore, turning welfare into wholesale loot," he charged, triggering loud applause from a gathering that braved the summer sun.
