Fair to promote lifestyle eco-friendly Jute products inaugurated

Chennai, Mar 18 (UNI) Jute Fair, an initiative by the National Jute Board (NJP), to
promote lifestyle eco-friendly Jute products was inaugurated in the city on Monday.
As part of its promotional activities, NJB was organising this fair, which comprises
display-cum-sale of eco-friendly, lifestyle jute products.
In all 20 Jute units from different parts of the country, including Tamil Nadu are
showcasing their environment-friendly jute consumer products like, Jute Handicrafts,
Jute Dolls, Fancy Jute bags, Jute Shopping bags, Jute Mattings, Gift articles, Jute
Wall hangings, Home Textiles, Jute Footwear, etc.
It was inaugurated by R. Ambalavanan, Director and Head, Entrepreneurship
Development and Innovation Institute (EDII) in the presence of T. Ayyappan,
Retd, Head Marketing, NJB introduced the South based Jute Entrepreneurs,
developed by NJB, to the Chief Guest.
A PIB release said the Golden Fibre Jute is an eco-friendly and bio-degradable
fibre.
"Today, jute is looked upon not only as a major textile fibre, but also as a raw material
for manufacturing products which protects environment and maintain ecological balance",
it said.
Set up by the Union Ministry of Textiles, NJB is undertaking various programmes for
Indian jute and represents interests of different sectors including artisans, WSHG,
Jute entrepreneurs and exporters of jute goods.
Jute has travelled a long journey from "Sacks" to "Sophistication”. Today some of the
diversified jute products have become the choice of the connoisseurs too.
Mr Ambalavanan appreciated the efforts of Jute artisans and their craftsmanship and
also advocated usage of Jute products in the daily life by the general public in place of
plastic products considering their bio-degradable aspects.
He was also impressed on the employment opportunities being provided for Women
entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu in many Jute units.
He also said that new entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu should utilise the EDII-TN schemes
for becoming successful Jute entrepreneurs.
He said EDII was contemplating to have tie-ups with NJB for Jute Training and employment
opportunities in the State and batted for organising more such Jute fairs by the NJB at regular
intervals in different parts of the state for creating awareness and marketing opportunities for
the Jute products.
The fair is open for public till March 24.
