CPM slams centre and Telangana over forest policies

Hyderabad, Jun 20 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central Committee member Tammineni Veerabhadram has strongly criticised both the central and the Telangana state governments for what he called r attempts to dispossess tribals off their lands under the guise of conservation and corporate development.

Speaking at the inauguration of political training classes for party workers from Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal districts at Sundarayya Vignana Kendra in Hyderabad on Friday, Tammineni alleged that Government Order (GO) 49 have been issued to facilitate the takeover of tribal lands in the name of creating a Tiger Corridor, aimed at benefiting corporate entities. He demanded the immediate repeal of this order.

He further stated that the BJP-led Central Government, through its proposed National Forest Policy, is attempting to dilute the rights of Scheduled Tribes and hand over forest resources and mineral wealth to private corporations.

"Chhattisgarh has already surrendered 4 lakh acres of forest land to corporate interests. Telangana is heading in the same direction," he warned.

Tammineni also targeted the previous BRS government and the current Congress administration over the failure to grant land rights to tribal cultivators.

"Out of the 12 lakh acres of land under tribal cultivation in Telangana, land titles have been issued for only 4 lakh acres by the BRS regime. The Congress, which promised to regularise the remaining 8 lakh acres in its manifesto, has failed to act even after a year in power," he said.

He alleged that instead of delivering on its promise, forest officials are raiding villages and filing cases against tribal farmers, further deepening their distress.

He demanded that the pending land titles be granted immediately and all legal cases against cultivators be withdrawn.

Raising concerns over healthcare in tribal regions, Tammineni noted the acute shortage of doctors, nurses, and lab technicians in government hospitals across tribal agency areas. He urged the government to fill all vacant posts and ensure basic medical facilities in these regions.

The session was also attended by CPM state secretariat member Bandaru Ravi Kumar, state committee members Bhupal, P Ashaiah, Udutha Ravinder, Poosam Sachin, along with district secretaries Darshanala Mallesh (Adilabad), K Rajanna (Kumram Bheem), Sanke Ravi (Mancherial), and Gautam Krishna (Nirmal), as well as party workers and committee members from all four districts.
