Pahalgam terror attack: India to add 100 to 150 satellites in three yrs to monitor borders, says ISRO Chief

Chennai, Apr 23 (UNI) ISRO Chief Dr V Narayanan on Wednesday evening said India would add another 100-150 satellites in the next three years to cover the entire country and monitor the borders following the Pahalgam terror attack in and J and K.
These satellites were aimed at increasing border security and coastal surveillance, he said speaking at an event held at a private hospital here.
Stating the present satellite numbers were not sufficient to cover all the borders and the vast 7,500 km shoreline, he said more satellites were needed for round the clock monitoring.
At present India operates about 55 satellites and for a country which has a vast border and long shoreline, it is not sufficient, he said, stressing on the need to add more satellites to protect the borders.
Thanks to the space sector reforms of Prime Minister Narendra Modi allowing private players in satellite designing and building, ISRO will be adding 100 to 150 satellites in the next three years towards this initiative and monitor the entire country.
