KKR look to keep playoff hopes alive against CSK

Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will look to continue their winning momentum and stay in contention for a playoff spot as they face off against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 57th match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.
After a narrow 1-run victory against Rajasthan Royals in their previous outing, KKR will be keen to build on this win and make a strong push for the top four positions in the points table.
KKR, currently on a two-match winning streak, have shown solid batting performances, especially from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, both of whom have been key in the team's recent success.
The challenge for the Knight Riders, however, lies in their inconsistent bowling, with pacers Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana failing to produce economical spells. Spin bowlers Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy will need to play a crucial role if KKR are to maintain their stronghold at home.
In contrast, Chennai come into this match on a four-match losing streak, having failed to capitalise on promising situations, including a close defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Despite strong individual performances, notably from young Ayush Mhatre, CSK's aging core, including MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, has struggled to deliver match-winning contributions consistently. The team will be looking for a turnaround, relying on their key players to step up and end the losing streak.
The match will also be a test of CSK's bowling attack, which has been inconsistent, with Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana needing to strike early to put KKR's powerful batting lineup under pressure. Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja, two of the most experienced allrounders in the squad, will be crucial if CSK hopes to halt their losing run and challenge KKR on this batting-friendly wicket.
With the weather forecast predicting cloudy skies and no rain expected to interfere with the game, Eden Gardens will once again prove to be a high-scoring ground, with the average first-innings score this season surpassing 200. Teams batting first have enjoyed success here, and KKR's decision to bat first, should they win the toss, would give them an advantage.
For KKR, it’s a must-win game as they push for the playoffs. They will look to make the most of home advantage, while CSK will need to overcome their recent struggles and rediscover their form if they are to challenge the hosts.
The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST, and both teams will be eager to secure vital points as the race to the top four heats up.
