People should not fall prey to high interest schemes: CM Fadnavis

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday made an appeal in the Maharashtra Legislative Council that people of the state should not fall prey to the schemes that promise to pay high interest.

While replying to a question raised by member Shashikant Shinde regarding the Torres scam, he said that 99 percent of schemes that pay exorbitant interest are fraudulent.

The Chief Minister further said that no one can pay excess interest in this way. Two to four percent more interest than the bank interest rate is possible, but no one is able to pay more or higher interest than that, he informed.

Therefore, such schemes that offer high interest are fraudulent, Fadnavis said and appealed the public not to fall prey to this lure and invest in such fraudulent schemes.

Also, while replying to a question, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said that Economic Intelligence Unit is being established to monitor the investment and economic transactions in the state.

Also, action is being taken according to the legal procedure to return the money of the investors who were duped in the Torres scam, he added.
