Maha: Children in Thane hostel sexually abused, police rescue 29

Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Thane Police rescued 20 girls and nine boys from a hostel being run illegally by an organisation in Maharashtra's Thane district following a complaint of sexual harassment and others, an official said on Saturday.
A release issued by Thane district administration said that police has registered an offence under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against five people of Pasaydan Vikas Sanstha, a residential institution in Khadavli.
The action was taken after the Child Helpline received a complaint that children were being beaten up and sexually abused in the institution, following which a team from the District Women & Child Development office, along with police, inspected the institution on Friday and found the allegations true after interacting with children, the release said.
