Sacked senior police inspector Abhay Kurandkar sentenced to life in murder of API Ashwini Bindre-Gore

Kolhapur/Raigad, Apr 21 (UNI) A Panvel sessions court today sentenced to life imprisonment sacked senior police inspector Abhay Kurandkar in the murder case of Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bindre-Gore in 2016, and handed out seven years' imprisonment to two others, Kundan Bhandari and Mahesh Falnikar, who helped in disposed of the dead body by chopping it into pieces with a woodcutting machine.
In a packed court room today, judge K Paldewar announced his judgement after hearing arguments from both lawyers -- public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat and defence lawyer Vishal Bhanushali
Earlier. judge Paldewar had convicted Kurundkar and two others Falnikar and Bhandari, and reserved his judgement after completing the hearing from both sides upto Apr 11. After hearing the statements of the Bindre family members including father Jaykumar Shinde, daughter Siddhi, husband Raju Gore on April 11, the judge again reserved his final judgement for April 21.
The sessions judge had expressed his severe anger at how a committee had recommended the accused Kurandkar's name for the President's Award.
The husband of Ashwini, Anand Gore was present in the court today.
The court acquitted the fourth accused Rajesh Patil.
API Ashwini Bindre-Gore, originally from Aalte village in Hatkanangale tehsil of Kolhapur district, was married to social worker Raju Gore. After she passed in the examinations, she was posted in Pune and then Sangli, where she got acquainted with Kurandkar.
Later in a feud, Kurandkar murdered Ashwini on April 11, 2016. He later disposed of small pieces of her dead body with the help of Falnikar and Bhandari at Vasai Khadi.
Police arrested Kurandkar on December 8, 2017 from Thane district.
Family members of Ashwini Bindre-Gore, relatives and villagers from her Aalte village of Kolhapur district were present in the court to hear the judgement.
