Kunal Kamra case: HC dismisses Sena MLA's PIL over misuse of social media

Mumbai, Apr 30 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) MLA Kiran Samant, which raised concerns over the alleged misuse of social media by influencers, content creators, and comedians, also naming comedian Kunal Kamra who is currently facing backlash for his controversial comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
A division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice MS Karnik while dismissing the plea in its order said that the reliefs sought by Samant were general in nature, and noted that he had an “efficacious remedy” available under the Information Technology Rules to lodge a complaint with the designated nodal officer for blocking such content.
