China urges US to immediately lift tariffs that undermine trading system

China urges US to immediately lift tariffs that undermine trading system

Beijing, Mar 4 (UNI) The new unilateral tariffs of the United States violate WTO rules and undermine the multilateral trading system, Beijing calls on Washington to immediately lift them, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said on Tuesday.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump doubled import duties on goods from China to 20% from 10%, accusing Beijing of ineffectiveness in combating drug trafficking to the United States.
"China has repeatedly stated that the US' unilateral tariffs violate World Trade Organisation rules and undermine the multilateral trade system," the ministry said in a statement.
It noted that the United States in this way not only would not solve its own problems, but would also damage the Chinese-American trade and economic and normal international trade order.
China calls on the United States to respect the rights and interests of other countries and immediately lift its unreasonable and unjustifiable unilateral tariff measures, which harm both others and itself, the ministry added.
