US to deprive over 530,000 migrants of temporary status - Reports

Washington, Mar 23 (UNI) The administration of US President Donald Trump is going to deprive over 530,000 migrants of temporary legal status, and if the initiative is approved, their temporary stay programs in the country will expire on April 24, NBC reported, citing a document.
According to the channel, the situation affects migrants who entered under a special program introduced under former US President Joe Biden in 2023. The program allowed foreigners to enter the United States with the support of a US sponsor and work in the country for two years. According to NBC, in 2024, the authorities briefly suspended accepting migrants under this program due to concerns that it was being used for fraudulent transactions.
The Trump administration intends to revoke the temporary legal status of more than 530,000 people who arrived in the United States from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela under the Biden-designated programs for entry and temporary stay of aliens in the United States, the broadcaster said.
According to NBC, the corresponding document is expected to be published on Tuesday, after which the temporary stay programs for migrants in the United States will expire on April 24. At the same time, it is indicated that foreigners who took advantage of the program and then received legal immigration status will not be required to leave the country.
"These programs do not serve a significant public benefit, are not necessary to reduce levels of illegal immigration, did not sufficiently mitigate the domestic effects of illegal immigration, are not serving their intended purposes, and are inconsistent with the Administration’s foreign policy goals," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, as quoted by the channel.
On Inauguration Day, January 20, Trump promised to immediately stop illegal immigration and begin the process of extraditing millions of migrants. He also declared a national emergency over the situation at the southern border.
