Patna, May 16 (UNI) To provide comfortable and safe commuting facilities to women, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar dedicated pink buses for them on Friday.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and Transport Minister Sheela Kumari, the Chief Minister flagged off 20 'Pink' buses and 166 deluxe buses which would ply across the state.
Before giving his Green Signal to the buses, the chief minister inspected the vehicles and took details of the facilities available inside.
He told media that these buses symblolised safety, security and empowerment of women. He said the new 166 deluxe buses launched during the day would make the road journey more comfortable.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Shila Kumari said Pink buses would operate daily between 7am and 8pm, with 20 CNG-run vehicles ready for deployment on five routes covering educational hubs, hospitals, residential areas, and others.
The Pink buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, charging ports and microphones, with drivers able to control all security features from their seats.
She said the scheme would particularly benefit daily commuters, including students and office workers, providing them with an affordable alternative to the more expensive or unsafe travel options.
