Washington, July 2 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has announced that he does not intend to extend the suspension of reciprocal trade tariffs, which is scheduled to expire on July 9, media reports said.
"No, I am not thinking about extending [the tariff pause]," Trump told reporters aboard AF1.
Trump also mentioned that his administration will soon send out one-page letters to US trade partners, congratulating them on their right to conduct business with the United States, Sputnik news reported.
The US president stated that the tariffs imposed have generated approximately $129 billion in revenue for the United States, and more is coming.
On Thursday, Trump announced that the United States signed a trade deal with China on Wednesday, and indicated that an agreement with India may be forthcoming.
On April 2, Trump signed an executive order that imposed tariffs on imports from other countries. The base tariff rate was set at 10%, with higher rates applied to 57 countries based on the US trade deficit with each specific nation.
On April 9, Trump said that tariffs on exports from over 75 countries that had not retaliated would be scaled down to 10% for 90 days.
The 90-day pause for most countries will end on July 8.
Meanwhile, the 90-day suspension of tariffs on China, which is also part of this arrangement, is scheduled to expire on August 12.
