Odisha: Three sentenced to 20 years RI and 50 K fine each in a gang rape case

Balasore , May 20 (UNI) Additional sessions judge (Adhoc) Fast track Anita Sahoo on Tuesday sentenced three youths to 20 years RI along with Rs.50,000 fine each for their involvement in a gang rape case.
The court further ordered a years rigorous jail term in case the convicts failed to pay the penalty sum.
The convicts identified as Manoranjan Sial , Sanjay Sahu and Mohan Sahu of Baringia village under Khaira police station had raped one 26 year woman of the same village in August 2020.
According to the Additional Public Prosecutor, Dipak Dash the victim on 21 August 2020 while on her way to fetch groceries in the evening hours, was kidnapped by the two accused and taken to a nearby school where another convict was present.
They sexually assaulted her one by one. The victim had complained to police against the accused, who were arrested and charged under different sections of the IPC.
The court, after examining 19 witnesses and 17 exhibits, pronounced the verdict on Tuesday.
The court further ordered Rs 6 lakh compensation for the victim to be paid through District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) ,Dash said.
