Officials directed to work coordinately to curb drug menace : Eluru Dist Collector

Eluru ( Andhra Pradesh), Mar 20 (UNI) Collector K Vetri Selvi on Thursday directed the officials of all government departments to work in a coordinated manner to curb the drug menace in Eluru district.

The Collector, flanked by district Superintendent of Police KPS Kishore and district legal services authority secretary K Ratna Prasad, released stickers and pamphlets to create awareness among people on the ill-effects of drugs.

Speaking on the occasion, Selvi said that extensive awareness programs should be organized against the selling and consumption of drugs including ganja.
Anti-narcotic task forces (Eagle Clubs) should be formed in all educational institutions by the next academic year to eradicate marijuana, she told the officials and suggested that a teacher should be appointed as the coordinator and children who show good enthusiasm should be appointed as club members.

“Awareness programs should be conducted in every educational institution. Toll-free number 1972 should be widely publicized for drug prevention, complaints and assistance. The relevant RDOs and Tahsildars should provide information about the programmes being conducted at the division and mandal levels for the control of marijuana and drugs,” the Collector told the officials.

The SP said that a WhatsApp group should be formed for all the Eagle Clubs and also in educational institutions to check that if anyone found selling cigarettes.

"If students are found consuming alcohol and disturbing public safety in public places, the Eagle Clubs should immediately inform the police. Keeping in mind public safety, they should inform the police if there are liquor shops within 100 meters of the school," the SP observed.
The meeting also reviewed the management of de-addiction, Nishamukti Bharat Abhiyan and de-addiction centers.

The Legal services authority Secretary also spoke. Excise deputy commissioner B Srilatha, DFO Subham, DRO V Visweswar Rao and ZP CEO Bhimeswara Rao and other officials attended the meeting.
