One killed as two Chennai Metro Rail pillar collapses

Chennai, June 12 (UNI) In a tragic incident, one person was killed and at least couple of them were injured when two pillars erected as part of Chennai Metro Rail project collapsed and fell from a height of around 15 to 20 ft in the city on Thursday night.
The incident occurred on the stretch involving second phase works from Light House to Poonamallee Highway in the under construction elevated corridor.
Five people travelling in two-wheeler were said to have suffered injuries and one of them succumbed in hospital.
Traffic on the busy and arterial Guindy-Porur road was hit for a few hours following the mishap that occurred near Ramavaram CMRL stretch near DLF and L and T.
The injured were being treated in hospital, initial reports said, even as efforts are on to streamline the traffic congestion.
