Pakistan PM calls National Security Committee meeting 'to respond to Indian actions'

Islamabad, Apr 23 (UNI) Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the National Security Committee on Thursday morning “to respond to the Indian actions”.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced this on X:
“Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif @CMShehbaz has convened the meeting of the National Security Committee on Thursday morning 24th April 2025 to respond to the Indian Government’s statement of this evening.”
Meanwhile, according to Dawn, the Pakistani Army Chief Asif Munir in an interview termed the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 tourists were killed as a “false flag operation”. “We cannot ever rule this out, the possibility (that it was a false flag) will be there,” he said.
In another development, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan from London, party sources said, as the party prepares for a series of top-level strategic meetings.
Though the party has not officially announced his return, it has been confirmed that Sharif’s return is being hastened in “light of urgent political events”.
His sudden return is reported to be attributed to internal party considerations that are already ongoing, news reports said.
Sharif has been said to have summoned his brother, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to the family compound in Jati Umra on April 25 to receive a crucial briefing regarding what is termed as a “serious matter.”
The older Sharif is due to chair several high-level sessions with senior party officials throughout the weekend, starting from Friday until Sunday. Though the agenda of the talks themselves is not public, sources said they will deal with determining the party’s political direction and course.
Nawaz Sharif, who has spent most of his time in London since 2019 due to health issues, returned to Pakistan for a short while in October 2023 and has since become more actively involved in party matters. His future commitments are being seen as crucial for the PML-N’s future political alignment.
