Parameshwara claims power struggle as speculation

Bengaluru, Apr 3 (UNI) Amid speculation over a potential change in Karnataka’s Chief Ministership, Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday dismissed reports of internal discord within the ruling party, asserting that while minor differences exist, there are no significant issues or confusion.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified discussions about a possible leadership change later this year. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Parameshwara himself are seen as key contenders for the post, fueling speculations of a power struggle within the party.
When asked whether the Chief Minister’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi would resolve the internal differences, Parameshwara acknowledged that minor disagreements are natural but denied the existence of major conflicts.
Further adding to political chatter, Parameshwara was absent from the Karnataka Bhavan inauguration in Delhi, an event attended by Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar, and other senior leaders. He revealed that he was not invited, despite having laid the foundation for the project during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister.
"No one invited me. How could I attend without an invitation?" he questioned, adding that he did not consider the event significant enough for his presence.
Rejecting speculation about tensions with Shivakumar, Parameshwara clarified that his absence from both the Delhi event and the Siddaganga Math event in Tumakuru should not be misinterpreted.
"I can visit his house anytime if needed. We are very good friends. There are no differences between us," he asserted.
On the speculation regarding a change in the state Congress leadership, Parameshwara, a former KPCC chief, remarked, "Some want change, while others want continuity. This was the case even when I was the state president. The high command consulted all state leaders before asking me to continue."
Shivakumar, who currently holds the KPCC president’s post on an extension, remains at the centre of the debate.
Parameshwara also revealed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has not sought his opinion on developments within the state unit or on nominations for vacant Member of Legislative Council (MLC) positions.
"My opinion is not important. With time, things change. Fresh water must flow, and the old must move forward. You can interpret it as you wish," he remarked when pressed for his views on party decisions. UNI BDN SSP
