PM Modi lays foundation stone and dedicates railway projects worth Rs.2,750 crore in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) In a significant step to boost rail infrastructure and regional connectivity in Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for key railway projects worth over Rs.2,750 crore.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also flagged off new train services from Boudh and Purunakatak through video conferencing, during an event marking the first anniversary of the BJP government in Odisha.
Modi laid the foundation stone for the 3rd and 4th rail lines between Sarla and Sason (16 km), at a cost of Rs.252 crore.
This project aims to ease congestion on the busy Jharsuguda–Sambalpur rail section and promote industrial development in the region.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated a new railway line between Sonepur and Purunakatak (73 km), part of the larger Khurda Road–Balangir Rail Project (301 km), constructed at a cost of Rs.1,376 crore.
With this, the Boudh district headquarters is now connected to the national railway network for the first time—fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of the local people.
In addition, Modi dedicated several infrastructure projects, including:
· A freight train maintenance facility for routine wagon overhauls at Sarla (Rs.165 crore)
· A subway in the Bamra–Dharuadihi section (Rs.10 crore)
· The Link C–Dumetra section (5 km) of the Bondamunda–Ranchi doubling project (Rs.98 crore)
· A road over bridge (ROB) at Jaleswar (Rs.89 crore)
· The 4th rail line between Jharsuguda and Jamga (53 km), part of the 206-km Jharsuguda–Bilaspur project
These projects are expected to significantly enhance operational capacity, improve logistics efficiency and safety, and ensure smoother movement of passengers and freight.
The Prime Minister also flagged off two new weekly train services, 18313/18314 Boudh–Bhubaneswar–Boudh Weekly Express and 18311/18312 Sambalpur–Boudh–Sambalpur Weekly Express, ushering in a new era of rail connectivity for Boudh district in western and central Odisha.
These new projects and train services represent a major step toward realising the vision of Viksit Bharat – Viksit Odisha.
The launch and dedication of these transformative rail projects not only mark a strengthening of Odisha’s railway infrastructure but also reflect the Centre’s firm commitment to inclusive growth, regional development, and a better-connected India.
