New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with visiting New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon visited the Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib this evening and paid obeisance there.
In a post on X, PM Modi said: “Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and I visited Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, a place of profound faith and history. The Sikh community’s unwavering commitment to service and humanity is truly admirable across the world.”
The two prime ministers made offerings at the revered Sikh shrine and were presented saropas by the presiding Sikh priests.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri said in a post on X:
“PM Sh @narendramodi Ji’s visit to pay obeisance at the historic Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib with Prime Minister of New Zealand, HE Mr @chrisluxonmp reflects the respect PM Modi Ji has towards the teachings of Sikh Guru Sahibs and the affection he has always shown towards members of the Sikh Sangat through several landmark decisions to honour our religion & belief.
“It also reflects how the teachings of universal brotherhood & oneness of humanity enshrined in our Sikh faith find resonance around the world.”
Harmeet Singh Kalka, President, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), said:
“Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, along with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Christopher Luxon, paid obeisance at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib today.
“During their visit, they were warmly welcomed and honoured by DSGMC.
“It was a truly inspiring moment to witness their deep reverence for Sikhism and their admiration for the rich heritage, values, and contributions of the Sikh community.”
The visit to the Gurdwara assumes significance amid PM Modi sharing concerns about the anti-India activities “by certain illegal elements in New Zealand”, in reference to the Khalistani elements there.
The PM added: “We’re confident that we will continue to receive the full cooperation of the New Zealand Government against such illegal elements.”
