Potti Sriramulu source of formation of Linguistic states: AIR ex-Director

Tirupati, Mar 16 (UNI) Venugopal, former Director of All India Radio, on Sunday said that Potti Sriramulu was the base for the formation of inguistic states.
Addressing at the 124th birth anniversary programme of Amara Jeevi Sri Potti Sri Ramulu held here, Venugopal said that Sri Potti Sriramulu, was born and brought up in Chennai, worked in railways in Mumbai. After that he went to Sabarmati Ashram after being attracted by Gandhiji's ideologies.
With his inspiration, he participated in Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movements and went to jail several times.
He said that he was given the honour for allowing the Harijans to enter the temple under the inspiration of Gandhiji.
He started fasting at the residence of Bulusu Sambamurthy on Rayapeta Road in Chennai, continued his fasting with great perseverance and finally sacrificed his life, he said
For the immortal sacrifices he made for the formation of the state of Andhra Pradesh and various social activities he should be awarded Bharat Ratna, he asserted.
Later many TTD employees gave speeches.
Earlier, the guests paid tribute to the portrait of Sri Potti Sriramulu.
Welfare Department Deputy EO Anandaraju, other staff participated.
