Punjab becomes first state to enact Sports Act 2024

Chandigarh, Dec 9 (UNI) In a major move aimed at giving fillip to sports in the state. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday gave the nod to enact "The Punjab State (Develop-ment and Permotion of Sports) Act, 2024", thereby becoming first state in the country to do so.

Presiding over a meeting of the sports department, he said the main aim of the act is to adopt National and International good practices for development of sports in the state and ensure fair selection of players. He said it will also go a long way to create a legal framework for transparency in working of Sports Associations. Mann said that it will also ensure fair selection of players who represent their districts at state level or the state at the national ;evel and above
