Chandigarh, May 5 (UNI) Claiming its support on the Punjab water issue, Bharatiya Janta Party MLA Ashwini Sharma on Monday said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's confrontational approach with the Union government was questionable at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan were high in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
While speaking to the media, Sharma said the party's state unit has always stood with Punjab and its people as far as the water issue is concerned; it showed its support in a recent all-party meeting also. However, there were some questions, which needed answers.
He said that since the Bhagwant Singh Mann government came into existence in 2022, Punjab has been giving water to Haryana, more than its share, so what happened suddenly? Today, when tensions are there between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Centre and the state should be seen on the same page, why is he taking on a confrontational approach and why is an atmosphere of unrest being created in the state?
He said the matter has to be resolved somehow.
Notably, Punjab BJP state unit chief Sunil Jakhar, after an all-party meeting, also suggested resolving the matter by holding talks with the Centre.
