Punjab: VB arrests ASI in bribery case

Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), on Tuesday, arrested an Assistant

Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajaib Singh, in-charge of Khasa police post, under police station Gharinda in Amritsar district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.

An official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest has been made following a complaint

lodged by a resident of village Ghumanpura, in Amritsar.

He further said that the complainant had met accused ASI to help him in connection with a police case was registered against his cousin at the said police station.

Being investigation officer, ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for presenting record in the court and helping his cousin in getting bail.

The spokesperson further informed that after a preliminary verification of this complaint, a case has been registered against the accused at the VB Police Station, Amritsar Range.

He would be produced before the competent court on Wednesday (tomorrow) and further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.

Kashmiri journalist detained for 'instigating secessionist sentiment' on social media

Srinagar, May 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing on Tuesday detained a Kashmiri journalist, accusing him of “posting extremist content on social media.”

Police said Hilal Mir, a resident of Bemina Srinagar was detained as he "used to disseminate extremist or distorted content with an intention to disturb peace and promote disaffection and secessionist ideology and present India in a bad shape.”

Police statement didn’t mention Mir as a journalist.
Mir, an independent reporter, has previously worked with media organsations including Hindustan Times and Srinagar based newspapers. He also freelanced for Anadolu Agency, TRT and Huffpost.
