Railway undertakes redevelopment of key stations in Odisha’s KBK region

Bhubaneswar, Apr 24 (UNI) The Indian Railways has launched a comprehensive redevelopment initiative under the Amrit Station Scheme, targeting key railway stations across the Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput (KBK) districts of Odisha.
This ambitious project aims to transform rail infrastructure in the region by equipping stations with modern passenger amenities, sustainable design elements, and improved accessibility.
The Amrit Station Scheme is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to upgrade major and mid-level stations to meet international standards of infrastructure and services.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources, stations selected for redevelopment in the KBK region include Balangir, Titlagarh, Kantabanji, Kesinga, Bhawanipatna, Rayagada, Muniguda, Gunupur, Koraput, Jeypore, Damanjodi, Harishankar Road, and Khariar Road.
Under the scheme, these key stations will be redesigned with enhanced waiting lounges, upgraded ticketing systems, and improved platform surfaces.
Foot overbridges (FOBs) will be constructed to facilitate smoother movement for senior citizens, Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), and families with children.
High-speed Wi-Fi, digital information boards, clean and modern restrooms, advanced security systems, and improved catering facilities will be provided at the stations.
ECoR stated that the upgrades are intended to stimulate local growth by boosting tourism, enhancing regional mobility, and creating employment opportunities.
This redevelopment is expected to have a transformative impact on the KBK region, which holds significant untapped potential in tourism, culture, and trade. With improved connectivity, enhanced passenger experiences, and world-class amenities, these stations will serve as catalysts for inclusive development.
The project will be implemented in phases, with timely execution as a top priority, ECoR sources added.
