Rain, snowfall likely in Lahaul-Spiti; rock fall disrupts traffic

Lahaul-Spiti, April 24 (UNI) The snow-covered district of Lahaul-Spiti continues to remain cold, although a slight rise in night temperatures has been recorded.

Road conditions remain challenging. The Lahaul-Spiti police have reported ongoing rock fall near Mooling bridge, making the road unsafe for travel towards Keylong and Manali. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes and stay updated on road advisories.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, Keylong was the coldest in the state at 2.7°C, followed by Tabo at 3.9°C, and Kukumseri at 4.1°C. Kalpa recorded 6°C, Manali 9.7°C, Shimla 15.5°C, and Dharamshala 16.1°C. Una, in the lower hills, was relatively warmer at 12.6°C.

Day temperatures were also slightly above normal in many places. Una reported the highest maximum temperature at 39.0°C, while Keylong’s day temperature was 12.9°C, highlighting the contrast across the state.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches, due to a fresh western disturbance expected to impact the region starting tonight. No official weather warning has been issued, but locals and tourists are advised to remain cautious, especially in the upper areas.

In a bit of relief, the road near Sissu Selfie Point, previously blocked due to rain, has now been cleared for single-lane traffic. Still, slippery conditions prevail, and driving must be done with care.

Authorities are monitoring the weather closely. The public is urged to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse conditions.
